In recognition of the Special Air Service Regiment (SASR) Combat Assault Dog (CAD) program, which was a highly specialised Tier 1 elite capability  within the Australian Defence Force. Inserted by Air, Land or Sea, CADs were a dual purpose highly trained canine which focused on combat assault, early warning and search, tracking and explosive detection in high-risk environments. These CADs acted as a crucial 'sword and shield' capability, contributing greatly to mission success by providing increased survivability  to their SASR handler operators and teams.
